Farewell!!

Hi for one final time!

I am an official graduate of Notre Dame of Maryland University!! Commencement was held last Saturday, May 26th, at the Baltimore Convention Center downtown. I got the honor of carrying the School of Arts & Sciences banner and lead in the undergraduate and graduate students.

It was so great to finally have my diploma in hand and see so many of my fellow classmates s accomplish what we've worked so hard for! It was a great day! Here's a picture of me and my family after the ceremony:

Dave came and brought flowers on top of that!! Such a keeper!

After four years of hard work in college, everything paid off! I can't wait to see the incoming freshman class at Notre Dame experience the same pride and happiness that graduation brings in a few years.

Thanks for staying in touch and keeping up with my blog this past year! It's been fun.

Stuent Ambassador of the Year!!

Stopping in to share some exciting news! I was voted on by the admissions office for Student Ambassador of the Year along with my friend and fellow "SA" Anne! It was a tie. We're both so wonderful, it's hard to choose between us two. :P

I've also completed my last week of classes and there are only TEN more days til graduation! Speaking of which, I was asked by the Dean of Arts & Sciences to carry the School of Arts & Sciences banner at Commencement! I am so excited and honored!

I hope you're enjoying the end of your school year and looking forward to summer vacation! :)

Bead for Life

Hi All!

This week, Omega Phi Alpha, the national service sorority I'm involved with on campus, is selling Bead for Life jewelry. If you do not know what that is, please check out their website: www.beadforlife.org/ You can order online and also host "bead parties" which is essentially what we've been doing this week! Tuesday and today we had booths in Doyle & Fourier lobbies where we were selling the beautiful pieces.

Here is a picture of me and some sister modeling off some bracelets:

The jewelry is made out of recycled paper and offers employment to women in Uganda. With the money they earn, they can provide food for their families, fees for education, and healthcare. All of the proceeds from what we sell goes directly back to the women! I've been a part of this sale for a couple of years now and I love it. We will continue this in the years to come, so if you're an incoming student, look for it next semester!

Communication Arts Showcase

Good Evening, Ladies!

Tonight I had my Communication Arts Showcase!! All of the COM seniors had the opportunity to talk about their internship sites to the campus community. We had poster presentations set up outside of Knott auditorium and faculty, staff, and other students walked around and got to hear the stories about what we've been doing this past semester!

I've mentioned it before on here but I will say it again, I am a promotions and events intern with 98 Rock. Here is a picture of me next to my poster presentation table:

Many majors have similar showcases for their seniors, so it's definitely something to look forward to as a Notre Dame student! After the poster board presentations, the members of AWC (The Association of Women in Communications) were given certificates and the seniors were awarded their cords they will be able to wear at Commencement! I can't wait!

Have a good night!

Class Projects

It's time again for another look into what's happening in my life! These past few weeks have been filled with working on class projects! My Media Literacy class is filming an Oral History on the introduction of media (radio, film, and television specifically). I have found our interviewees and the next step is to film! I will hopefully have the link for you when it is all said and done.

For my Digital & Social Media Skills course we are working on a social media campaign for the rest of the semester! My friend Shy and I are in the same group and came up with "Signature Cause." Our campaign is highlighting fashion brands (clothing, jewelry, and cosmetics) that give back to a cause in some way! Our first few weeks have been pretty successful! This week we are highlighting Under Armour! We made a fun video with a current NDMU athlete talking about the brand! I'm sure you've all seen the "Things _____ People say" videos. We had some fun with that theme! Check it out:

Then for my practicum class we will be having our Communication Arts Showcase next Thursday, April 26th!! This event if for the Com Arts seniors to showcase what they have done at their internship sites as well as different projects they've completed over their Notre Dame careers! I have to complete a tri-fold poster for that as well!

I only have 16 more days of classes left! It's hard to believe because I've been so busy with different class assignments (as you can see!). I'm doing my best to savor these last few days walking around campus in the warmer weather! Hope you all are doing well! :)

Easter Break

Time for another update!! Today's the last day of Easter break and I wanted to recap some of the fun things I did. I went to a concert at the Baltimore Soundstage, a great venue downtown,  and before hand I got to spend some time walking around the harbor with my boyfriend. Here's a picture of us, in our matching sunglasses haha!

Then on Friday I worked Orioles Opening Day for my internship. Here's a picture of what the stadium looked like before the sold out game!!

Of course I had to dye Easter eggs as well!! I love all the bright colors of spring!

And obviously there was Easter yesterday!! Here is a picture of my oldest sister and myself before our yummy family dinner!

And in case you were wondering the Easter bunny DID visit my house! I got some tasty chocolate in my basket! Lucky me! I hope you all are doing well and enjoyed the holiday.

Weekend Update

This weekend and beginning of next week is going to be very busy for me! Tonight I am DJing a dance on campus, with my co-manager of WNDM, that is benefiting My Sister's Place (an organization that NDM has a strong volunteer relationship with). Tomorrow afternoon I will be working my first ever wedding!! I am helping out the Conference Services department on campus and can't wait, I love weddings! On Sunday it's ACCEPTED STUDENT OVERNIGHT!! I'm so looking forward to going downtown again with my fellow student workers and the accepted students which will hopefully become the future Notre Dame class of 2016!! If you are coming you'll have a blast, I promise!

Then when the week kicks into gear I have my internship, work, OPA meeting and Big/Little dinner. For Tuesday I was asked my Stephanie Cavill to be the student presenter at Crab Crawl, an annual event where guidance counselors all over the country come and visit colleges in the Baltimore Collegetown area. I made a video for my slide show and wanted to share it with you all! :) Have a good weekend!

The greatest show on earth!

Hi all!

I'm wrapping up my spring break and just wanted to let you that the circus is in town!! I went on opening night this past Wednesday! It was a blast. I also went to the free pre-show an hour before it began and got to see an elephant up close! (barely 5 feet in front of me!)

Then I got these awesome clown glasses! I'm a pirate clown.. it's a new breed!

I hope everyone is enjoying the official start to spring!! Ttys!

Spring Time!

It sure feels like Spring in Baltimore! This past week has been beautiful, especially around campus. I've been studying outside on the benches by the fountain every chance I have in between classes. I also bought a bike off of my friend this week. I rode on a bike trail up by my house today and enjoyed the weather some more! Here is a picture of it:

Spring Break also started for me on Thursday night. Friday morning I got up bright and early (at 2:30 A.M. to be exact) to work the live broadcast for the 98 Rock morning show. Life of an intern.. They were gearing up for St. Patrick's day at Looney's Pub in Canton (a neighborhood in Baltimore). The mayor of Baltimore, Stephanie-Rawlings Blake even stopped by! She normally calls in monthly to the morning show but this time she did an in person interview! It was pretty cool.

There she is with her radio headset on and some green for St. Patty's Day! I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday! TTYS. :)

New Presidante!

As you may have heard NDMU's current president is retiring this June. It was announced last week that Dr. Connelly would be the newest president! After the announcement, I enjoyed some lunch with my friends before my class and he and his family ate in the dining hall as well. He walked around to each table of students and introduced himself. He was very friendly and approachable, I'm excited for the future of NDMU knowing it is in his hands. I was interviewed with a few of my fellow students by the Catholic Review, check out the article here: http://www.catholicreview.org/article/home/it-s-a-boy-2

Scholarship Dinner was the following evening, after the announcement. It was so great to get to talk with the prospective students and their families!! Since then, I DJ-ed Winterfest, Notre Dame's annual indoor carnival, with my co-manager for WNDM, caught up on some homework, saw Godspell, the musical the school is currently putting on, and was in a music video for my friends local pop punk band!

PHEW!!

I also received a packet from school about the details for graduation! It feels so real!! I hope everyone has been doing well.

100 Nights!

This past Thursday the Class of 2012 celebrated 100 nights until graduation! It was a great celebration of what we've accomplished so far and how many days we have left until our big day. Here's a picture with some of my fellow student ambassadors with some of the lovely admissions staff!

The semester is quickly turning into a busy one! I'm trying to keep this updated but forgive me if it slips a little, I am doing my best! If I saw you at Get Antiquated Day today then I hope you had a great time! It was another fabulous admissions event. :)

Notre Dame Day 2012

Hello All!

This past Tuesday was our University's annual Notre Dame Day. This is where the campus community gets together for a luncheon with a selected guest faculty speaker and honor those achievements of our faculty and students. The theme was the 75th anniversary of the Honor Pledge.

This year the Admissions own Stephanie Cavill won the SSND Mission & Ministry Award. It was very exciting that the School Sisters of Notre Dame (the founders of NDMU) recognized all her hard work as our Events Coordinator as well as her character and commitment to the campus community. Stephanie helps plan all of the personal and group events for prospective students here at Notre Dame. Personally, she is a great boss, mentor, and friend.

Yesterday, I said goodbye to Meridith Fell, who was a senior when I first transferred to Notre Dame and was one of the first sisters of Omega Phi Alpha I had ever met. She then graduated and moved on to become an Admissions Counselor here. She is moving on to a new job and great changes ahead! I will miss seeing her around though!

And finally yesterday, I went to see one of my friends perform in his local band at the Recher Theatre in Towson. It's only about a 10-15 minute drive from campus so that makes it easy to fit in some fun entertainment with your friends after a busy day of classes & meetings.

Start of the Semester!

Hello Everyone!

I'm back to the college semester grind one more (final!) time!! I hope everyone completed their application by the priority deadline of February 1st! Hopefully all you smart ladies will be able to receive some scholarships to make your NDMU education possible. :) We are having our annual Scholarship Dinner Friday, February 24th to honor the accomplishments of our prospective students!

You may be wondering what I have been up to these past few weeks?! Well, the weekend before classes started I worked the MSP Polar Bear Plunge. There was a Notre Dame team who participated. In case you don't know what the PBP is, it's an event hosted by Special Olympics of Maryland where people can sign up and receive donations to jump into the freezing cold Chesapeake Bay. It's a fun time. Here are a few pictures of the 98 Rock promotions team I work with:

The first picture is my site supervisor Jessica, and the second picture is me and my friend Mike who visited at the booth. The polar bear is my fellow intern Ryan who was a good sport about being the mascot.

100 Nights is also coming up for us Seniors, February 16th!! This is an annual tradition for the senior class to spend one last event all together before graduation. We have a nice dinner and cocktail hour with some of our favorite faculty and staff. Afterwards, we all head downtown to go out and celebrate 100 days until we graduate! I bought my dress this weekend, I love it!

I hope everyone enjoyed the Super Bowl if you watched it last night! Some of the commercials were pretty funny, my favorite was The Voice commercial with Betty White. I was also very excited the Giants won, seeing as the Patriots were the team to knock us out of the running for the big game.

Have a great week everyone!

I came across this picture today online:

It made me think of the many times in life we want to slow time down and go back to when days were simpler and easier. If you're reading my blog then you are most likely starting or in the middle of your college search and/or application process. You're almost done with highschool and are about to embark on heading off to college. I remember those days so well, not knowing what major I would choose and feeling all the uncertainty about the change about to take place in my life. Now as a college senior I am facing the same fears and excitement about what lay ahead. Instead of majors I'm worried about jobs. Instead of thinking about where I'm going to go to school I'm thinking about where I'm going to live.

As I start my last semester as a Notre Dame woman next week it will be the beginning of the end so to speak. I am glad I've had NDMU here for me these past few years to shape me into the person I am. I remember so vividly wearing my cap and gown at my honors convocation ceremony and in a few short months I'll be walking across stage to receive my diploma in that same assemble. If you've recently been accepted or if you're still narrowing down your options, I hope you find NDMU to be as beneficial as so many of the current students do. As I leave, many of you will be following in my shoes. So I encourage you, do not regret growing older, it is a privilege denied to many.

Purple Fever

If you've read my blog since the beginning you might have gathered that I am a huge Baltimore Ravens fan! Lucky for me, my team is headed to the AFC Championship!! All over Baltimore major government buildings, random places in the city, and even local restaurants are showing their Purple Pride. Notre Dame gets in on the action every year the Ravens make it into the playoffs by lighting up our famous Gibbons Tower purple. Here's a picture!

Don't forget our SECOND Winter Open House is this Saturday, January 21st starting at 8:30 in the morning! :)

Winter Break Work Fun!!

As I mentioned in my last post I am working over Winter Break. I started this past Friday with a full day of putting together and sending out mailings! If you're a prospective student expect to receive something that looks like this in the mail sometime soon!

Also, notice my cute gray cardigan! It has the school's logo on the left hand side. Us Student Ambassadors were given these as Christmas presents this year from the Admissions team. I was so excited I wore it on my first day back to work. :)

Happy 2012!!!

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

It's so exciting to finally reach 2012 because I graduate in May! :D It seems a bit more real now that the actual year is here. I'm currently on winter break and enjoying some time to catch up with friends and relax without looming schoolwork deadlines... I received all of my grades from last semester and am very pleased. JUST missed Dean's List but it was my busiest semester so far and I'm just glad I kept my sanity in the end. :P I hope everyone had a great holiday! Here is a picture of my parents and I on Christmas Eve before mass:

It's a tradition for me to take a picture on Christmas Eve with each of my parents these past few years, but we never get one all together (my dad, the resident photographer, doesn't ever bring out the tripod). So I decided to use my self-shooting camera skills that I learned from growing up in the social media age to capture all three of us together! They're laughing cause they think I'm a little crazy for trying. But hey! It turned out pretty darn good.

I am working in the Admissions office over winterim so hopefully I will see you on a tour or at our second Winter Open House on Saturday January 21st!
