Last Fall Semester EVER!

Wow, it sure was weird to type out that title! It's true though, today marks the beginning of my last week of an undergraduate fall semester ever!! It's been a long crazy college ride, but as I'm registering for my final semester in the spring, and finishing up projects, presentations, and books for finals it's all setting in.

Another bright point is that NDMU is having their annual Christmas dinner this Thursday night! It's a chance for students and faculty to have dinner together as a community, and GET THIS, the faculty serve the students!! After all the hard work I'm putting into some of my classes you bet I want them to serve me a plate of delicious food! It's a great time full of holiday cheer and will be a welcome break from all the school work I'll be doing until next Wednesday (which is when my last final is).

DON'T FORGET!! Winter Open House is this Saturday, December 10th!! Be sure to RSVP online or call your admissions counselor! :)

Thanksgiving Break!

Hey Everyone!

NDMU's Thanksgiving Break is officially underway! I have my internship in the morning, and I'm trying to complete all of my assignments before the holiday, so my break probably won't actually start till Thanksgiving day but that's okay! I'll still get four days of relaxation and family! Speaking of family, my dad really likes Charlie Brown, so here's a little holiday cheer to throw your way. I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving this year!

Weekend out in Baltimore

This weekend I went out with some friends to celebrate my birthday! I love being so close to downtown, there's always a lot of fun things to do! Here's a picture of my boyfriend & I:

Blog world, meet Dave! Just because you're a women's college student doesn't mean you won't have time to meet boys! (I am an example of this). ESPECIALLY because we are in such a big collegetown, which I talked about in my last post.

I think last weekend will be my last time for fun in a while. As the end of the semester draws closer it feels like everything is due around the same time! Time management skills will be something I'll be using a lot of until finals! I hope everyone had a good start to their week!

Also, don't forget! It's our Fall Preview Overnight this Thursday & Friday!!! Make sure to visit campus for an overnight visit full of information sessions, classes, campus activities, and hanging out with current students! :)

Baltimore Collegetown Network

Happy Tuesday Everyone!!

We had a Student Ambassador meeting today with a special guest from The Baltimore Collegetown Network. I don't know if many of you know but NDMU is a part of this organization along with 13 other schools locally in the Baltimore region. I think being a women's college in Baltimore adds so much more to your college career because you have to opportunity to interact with so many other college students! I learned today that there are 120,000 college students in Baltimore! You get the best of both worlds, a small community here at Notre Dame and the opportunity to use the resources at so many other schools. There's also a FREE shuttle that takes you to the local colleges, as well as downtown, and shopping destinations close by! Find out more by visiting their website: http://www.baltimorecollegetown.org/ (They're also on Facebook if you search "Baltimore Collegetown")

On another note, my 21st birthday was this weekend! I am going out to Power Plant Live downtown this Saturday with some friends to celebrate. I first have to get through this week of school work!

*Don't forget!!* We are offering an overnight visit event to campus next Wednesday into Thursday (17th into the 18th)! It's a great time to sit in on classes, get a tour of the university, hang out with current students, and see what life is like at Notre Dame! :)

Happy Halloween!!!

I hope everyone had a great time last night! :) Here's a picture of some of the actives and pledges this semester! We had a pasta dinner party.

Sisterhood Retreat

Hi all!

This weekend me and my sisters from OPA had our sisterhood retreat! We normally try to make it an over night event but it was snowing in Baltimore on Saturday! Crazy to believe, I know. We normally don't get it THIS early in the year.. it was a fluke. Nothing stuck on campus, except to the cars a little but you could definitely see it in the sky from the Meletia balcony (which was right outside out window at retreat). Here's a picture of us working on an arts and crafts project:

Time to finish a little more homework and watch some Sunday Night Football! Hope everyone else has a fun weekend.

We had our annual Community Day this past Thursday:

This year's theme was "The Idea of a Catholic University." The event starts with a keynote speaker lecture in our auditorium, then we move into a community lunch in our dining hall. The food was very good and the conversations were fun and refreshing! Afterwards we were able to attend a small workshop of our choice. Each workshop tied into the overall theme of the day. I attended one that discussed the idea of the Notre Dame women. Then we ended up the day with a reception and some delicious cake! It's a great annual event here on campus that brings the campus community together, despite their major, academic area of expertise, or position in the administrative realm.

Over the weekend I participated in Maryland's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Here's a view of 5k finish line:

I walked with some of my sisters from Omega Phi Alpha and was a part of the Team Notre Dame. It was a great day full of survivors, supporters, and pink.

Halloween on my mind..

Hello!

Tonight I've got Halloween on my brain.

I'm trying to figure out what to be! Me and my sisters from Omega Phi Alpha will be having a spaghetti "brains" dinner party on Monday night and we are all going to be festive and dress up! I also want to get a pumpkin this weekend.. Wait a minute, did I just have thoughts of THE WEEKEND?! It's only the middle of the week. Best get my brain to start focusing more on this reading I have to do for class! Tomorrow is Community Day so hopefully I will have pictures to post from that. I'm so excited!

Goodnight all!

Midterm Break

Hi Everyone!

Us Notre Dame women have a three day weekend because today is midterm break! Not for me though.. I had to go to my internship site this morning so I swung by school to get an afternoon of school work in at the library before my busy (but fun) weekend begins! I stopped for a second to snap a quick picture:

Notice my Ravens shirt! It's "Purple Friday" as we like to call it here in Baltimore. The Friday before every game during the NFL season many people dress up in their Ravens gear or purple to show their football support! Well, I'm heading back to study.. have a good weekend!

Weekend Update!

Hello everyone,

This weekend was fun but definitely busy! Fall Open House went great! I loved seeing the excitement from all of the prospective students. Saturday night I went bowling with some of my sorority sisters in Omega Phi Alpha! Here's a picture of everyone after we were done:

I'm hiding in the back.. that's what you get for being tall!!

Then on Sunday, since the Ravens had a BYE week and weren't playing.. I traveled to New Jersey to see a band, Love and Theft perform. I've been a fan of them for a while so it was so great to see them again and catch up!

Now I'm sitting in the dining hall, where I just finished up eating my lunch. My classes start at noon today so it's back to the college grind! Hope everyone has a good week!

Friday, October 7, 2011

That is what I see every Wednesday and Friday morning at around 5:30. I mentioned in my bio that I am completing an internship at a radio station this semester but never got to explain it a little bit further. I work for the morning show; Mickey, Amelia, and Spiegel. I help out with production, dealing with a lot of sound bites, as well as audio and video editing. The best part is I'm getting credit for it! So you could say it's definitely my favorite "class" this semester.

You can complete an internship up to three times for credit here at NDMU!! (How awesome, right?!) We have an Academic and Career Center that offers great services to the students, one of them being internships! I have a class once a month, and at the end of the semester I will give a presentation on my experience.

Now I'm off to do homework. (Yes, on a Friday night! Because my Saturday and Sunday is already planned!) I hope to see some of you tomorrow morning for our Fall Open House!

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

So today was a beautiful day weather wise! I got an A+ on my history critique and a B on my ecology exam! AND it was two of my friends birthday's!! Wishing everyone else the same *small* happiness moments!

What's the story, morning glory?

Hello all! Sorry I haven't updated in a while. Here's something I did this weekend!! ^ Yep, I baked a cake! Me and my friend Marianna used one of Notre Dame's kitchens (in the residence halls) to create this.. Cocoa Cola cake.. so good!

Now that the week has begun I will be running around like a crazy woman. I will try to remember to keep everyone updated though! Today I have a Student Ambassador meeting with the Admissions team and we are going over our Fall Open House which is THIS Saturday!! I hope to see some of you there. :)

Forest not tree

So sometimes in the classroom, other than the material that you are currently learning about, professors will teach you tidbits of wisdom applicable to your current life situation. Last week we were discussing a book we had read in one of my classes. My professor said "Don't get so caught up on the tree that you can't see the forest." She was referring to some of the smaller, less important details the class had been dwelling on throughout the book that weren't as pertinent as the main thesis.

I quickly jotted down the metaphor and the more I thought about it the more it resonated with my everyday life. How many times do I get caught up in smaller insignificant things that aren't as important as the big picture? I try to remind myself of this saying when I find my brain wondering to thoughts that aren't significant. I encourage you to do the same! This is a great example of Notre Dame professors teaching more than what you could learn from your textbook.

Happy Tuesday!

American Saturday Night

I spent my Saturday night at a Blake Shelton and Brad Paisley concert outside of D.C. I love being so close to Baltimore AND D.C.!! There's always so much to do! I went with my best friend who goes also goes to college in the Baltimore area. It was a fun time!!

Now I am working on a paper so I can be finished in time for the RAVENS game at 4:20 P.M.!! I hope everyone else has a good weekend.

First Post!!

Good Evening everyone!!

So I guess this qualifies as my first post.. I hope it's interesting! I am excited to start this blog up so you can see what a Notre Dame student's life is like week to week. Today marks the half way point to my school week! It's been a busy day, filled with my internship, two classes, work, and homework! And to think exactly one month ago I was just starting off my vacation down in Ocean City, Maryland!!

That was my view a month ago! Now as I sit in my room, taking a break from reading for my history class, I can't help but wish I was reading my textbook outside on the beach.. but never fear, the signs of fall are showing here in Baltimore and I'm looking forward to the season!

Family Weekend and Honors Convocation are this weekend so there's been a lot of hustle and bustle around campus. They are opening the new entrance on Charles Street tomorrow which is exciting! I got a chance to walk down the new driveway on University Day a couple weeks ago when I was selected, along with some other friends, to take pictures with our President, Dr. Mary Pat Seurkamp, by the new sign. The entrance is beautiful and I can't wait for the campus community to see it! I guess I better get back to studying now.. I'm a busy bee!

I'll update soon!
